Training Overview

Avon Sailing Club offers a variety of training programs to help members develop their sailing skills in a safe and supportive environment.

Our training sessions are led by qualified instructors who are also club members, ensuring a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Whether you're a complete beginner or looking to refine your racing techniques, we have courses to suit your needs.

Please note: All training courses are exclusively available to club members. Our instructors and coaches are volunteers who generously donate their time to help fellow members improve their sailing skills.

Dinghy Courses

Comprehensive training for dinghy sailors of all levels:

  • RYA Levels 1-3: From beginner adults to competent sailors
  • Youth Sailing Scheme: Stages 1-4 for young sailors
  • Start Racing: Introduction to racing techniques
  • Seamanship Skills: Improve boat handling and safety
  • Performance Sailing: Advanced techniques
  • Sailing with Spinnakers: Master downwind sailing

Additional Courses

Powerboat Courses:

  • Level 1: Basic boat handling skills
  • Level 2: Intermediate powerboat handling
  • Safety Boat Course: Support sailing activities

Theory Courses:

  • First Aid Course: Essential safety skills (subject to instructor availability)

Race Training

Date: May 26

Develop your racing skills and tactics with our dedicated race coaches.

Powerboat Level 2

Start Date: June 5 onwards

Wednesday evening sessions. Learn essential powerboat handling skills.

Assistant Dinghy Instructor Course

Dates: August 17-19

First step toward becoming an RYA instructor.

Avon Week Training

Dates: August 19-23

  3. Provide details of the course you're interested in
  4. Confirm your availability for the scheduled dates
  5. Wait for confirmation of your place
