Safety is our top priority at Avon Sailing Club. These guidelines outline essential safety procedures and policies that all members, guests, and visitors must follow. Following these guidelines ensures a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Please familiarize yourself with these safety procedures before engaging in any activities at the club. If you have any questions about safety measures, please speak to a committee member or safety officer.

Safety on the Water

Personal Safety Equipment

  • • Buoyancy aids/life jackets must be worn on the water at all times
  • • Appropriate clothing for weather conditions should be worn
  • • Sun protection is recommended during sunny conditions
  • • Suitable footwear should be worn when sailing
  • • Personal flotation devices should be checked regularly

Sailing Rules & Precautions

  • • All boats must be registered with the club
  • • Sailors must observe all safety instructions
  • • Safety boat instructions must be followed immediately
  • • Racing will be conducted according to Racing Rules of Sailing
  • • Members must be aware of and check river conditions before sailing
  • • Never sail alone - ensure others know your sailing plans

  • • Fire safety protocols must be observed by all members

Emergency Procedures

  • • Emergency contact numbers are displayed on the club notice board
  • • First aid kits are located in the clubhouse and safety boats
  • • Fire exits and assembly points are clearly marked
  • • All incidents must be reported to a committee member
  • • The club's exact location for emergency services is posted by the telephone

The club maintains comprehensive risk assessments for all activities. These documents are available for members to review and understand potential hazards and control measures.
